Capriles Vs Chavez

Venezuelan Presidential Election: Capriles Trails Chavez by Two Points

Capriles Faces Chavez in Sunday's Election

Capriles May Be the Underdog, But He's Running a Strong Campaign

WEB Henrique Capriles may be the underdog at this Sundays Venezuelan presidential election, but he's running a strong campaign and has a chance to upset incumbent Hugo Chavez. In a survey published on September 25th by the Varianzas, Capriles trailed Chavez by just two points. The poll found that 48% of respondents would vote for Chavez, while 46% would vote for Capriles.

Capriles, who is the governor of the state of Miranda, has criticized Chavez's economic policies and his autocratic rule. Chavez, who has been in power for 14 years, has promised to continue his socialist revolution and to reduce poverty in Venezuela.

The election is expected to be close, and it is possible that Capriles could pull off an upset. If he does, it would be a major setback for Chavez and his socialist government. However, Chavez has a strong base of support, and he is likely to win re-election.
